Antonio Marras on Fashion, Art, and the Need for Constant Change

Antonio Marras, born in 1961 in Alghero, debuted as a fashion designer in 1991 in Rome and conquered Paris the following year. He later served as artistic director at Kenzo until 2011. Marras discusses his eclectic practice spanning fashion, theater, and art, exemplified by the exhibition 'Sulle tracce di Gavino Clemente' at the Museo nazionale archeologico ed etnografico 'Giovanni Antonio Sanna' in Sassari. The show reanimated archaeological artifacts and modern-contemporary art in a non-chronological dialogue. Marras describes his creative process as driven by curiosity and fearlessness, avoiding boredom by constantly seeking new stimuli. He maintains two distinct studios in Milan: one for textiles and another for installations and theater. The exhibition reopened a wing of the museum that had been closed for ten years, featuring contributions from writer Bianca Pitzorno and seven other authors. Marras, who is dyslexic and dyscalculic, finds solace in poetry, citing Erri De Luca and Cesare Pavese. His concept store NonostanteMarras in Milan embodies his ideal home, blending mirrors, clothes, furniture, and a garden.
