Antonio Marras curates exhibition at reopened Museo Sanna in Sassari

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Museo Nazionale G. A. Sanna in Sassari has reopened after three years of closure with an exhibition curated by fashion designer Antonio Marras. Titled 'Sulle tracce di Clemente' and held in the Padiglione Clemente, the show features archaeological artifacts, historical artworks, and ethnographic objects from Sardinia, drawn from the museum's collection and the Gavino Clemente Collection. Marras, known for his interdisciplinary practice blending fashion with literature, music, dance, and visual arts, created an immersive installation that reinterprets Sardinian traditions. The exhibition includes a towering female figure made of traditional Sardinian skirts, a living room set by the Clemente furniture company, and a display of archaeological finds from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. Visitors can scan QR codes to hear stories by writers Bianca Pitzorno, Antonella Anedda, Flavio Soriga, Marcello Fois, Francesco Abate, and Elvira Serra. The show also features works by Giuseppe Biasi, Oskar Brádza, and references to historical figures like Gavino Clemente, Adelasia di Torres, Eleonora d'Arborea, Tina Modotti, Amelie Posse Bràzdova, Costantino Nivola, and Antonio Gramsci. Marras's installation challenges traditional display methods, with no labels and objects arranged like a compulsive collector's home, emphasizing that tradition is ever-evolving. The exhibition opened in 2021.
