Antonio Malta Campos Returns to São Paulo Biennial After 31-Year Absence

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Antonio Malta Campos is set to showcase his work at the 32nd São Paulo Biennial, titled Incerteza Viva, marking his return after missing the 18th edition in 1985. Following his exclusion from the 1985 biennial, he stepped away from painting for five years. This year, under the curation of Jochen Volz and assistant curator Júlia Rebouças, Campos will display four large diptychs alongside approximately 200 small pieces known as Misturinhas, which he began in 2000. These Misturinhas, crafted on 20 x 25 cm Holler paper, feature various techniques and are produced rapidly. His comeback is tied to a 2012 exhibition at the Centro Cultural São Paulo, which led to acquisitions by Philly Adams and Charles Saatchi. The larger works were created with assistance from Antonia Baudouin.
