Antonio D'Amico appointed new conservator of Museo Bagatti Valsecchi in Milan
Antonio D'Amico (born 1979 in Catania) has been named the new conservator of the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, a historic house museum in Milan's fashion district. The announcement was made by Camilla Bagatti Valsecchi, president of the Fondazione Bagatti Valsecchi. D'Amico succeeds Lucia Pini. He is an art historian, lecturer, and curator who previously served as conservator and director of the Musei Civici di Domodossola, where he oversaw the reopening of Palazzo San Francesco after 40 years. He also coordinated the new layout and study of the Museo di Scienze Naturali, the Pinacoteca degli artisti vigezzini, the drawings collection, the archaeological museum, the sacred art section, and the collections of wooden and stone sculptures. He is artistic director of the Museo Diocesano di Arte Sacra of the Diocese of Nicosia in Sicily. The museum was founded by brothers Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi, who began assembling the collection in the late 19th century. D'Amico plans to focus on conservation and enhancement of the collection, organize exhibitions that place the collection in dialogue with other Renaissance masterpieces and works from different eras, and position the museum as a space for cultural innovation and public engagement.
