Antonio D'Amico Appointed Director of Milan's Museo Bagatti Valsecchi
The Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, a Neo-Renaissance house museum in Milan's fashion district, has appointed art historian Antonio D'Amico as its new director. D'Amico, born in Catania in 1979, had served as the museum's curator since October 2021. He succeeds architect Pier Fausto Bagatti Valsecchi, who died in October 2023 and had co-founded the museum with his father and sisters. D'Amico holds degrees from the University of Calabria, the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy, and the University of Milan. His career includes directing the Civic Museums of Domodossola and the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art in Nicosia, Sicily. He co-founded ARTedISTAgione, a cultural tourism organization, and has taught at the Libera Accademia d'Arte di Novalia. As curator, he developed inclusive programming to encourage repeat visits. His directorship plans include fostering dialogue with private collections and enhancing social engagement, supported by president Camilla Bagatti Valsecchi and the board. The museum, created by barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi in the late 19th century, houses collections of furniture, armor, and paintings by Gentile Bellini, Giovanni Bellini, and Giampietrino.
