Antonia Ruder named new director of Gallery Weekend Berlin

institutional · 2026-04-24

Antonia Ruder has been appointed as the new director of Gallery Weekend Berlin, succeeding Maike Cruse, who left earlier this year to work with Art Basel in Basel. Ruder brings extensive experience from Berlin’s cultural scene, having previously served as the head of communications at Schaubühne Berlin. Her resume includes managing the ars viva prize for up-and-coming artists and consulting on visual and performing arts at the nonprofit Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft e.V. Ruder is excited to introduce new concepts, particularly for the season starting this September, and aims to boost Berlin's prominence in the art market. She will officially begin her role on November 1, 2023, ahead of next year's anniversary edition.
