Antonia Carver on Jameel Arts Centre Dubai and Art Jameel's Regional Impact
Antonia Carver, who served as the director of Art Dubai from 2010 to 2016 and has led Art Jameel since August 2016, elaborates on the organization's growing influence across the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey. Art Jameel, a non-profit branch of the Abdul Latif Jameel family enterprise, is dedicated to fostering contemporary art and restoring heritage. Set to launch in winter 2018, the Jameel Arts Centre Dubai will span 10,000 square meters, serving as a center for art and research, including a library focused on Gulf art histories. Additionally, Art Jameel is the research collaborator for the UAE Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale and partners with the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Victoria & Albert Museum, while also managing heritage sites in Cairo and Jeddah. The Art Dubai fair noted impressive sales in 2017.
