Antoni Miralda's Food Cultura Museum Archives on View in Sète
The Musée international des arts modestes (MIAM) in Sète, France, presents Antoni Miralda's exhibition @ Table ! from June 20 to November 22, 2009. Founded by Hervé di Rosa, the museum hosts the Catalan artist's first French display of his Food Cultura Museum archives. Miralda, who lives between Miami and Barcelona, explores the intersection of food, art, and culture through objects collected during his anthropological travels. The exhibition features a looping itinerary: the 'Tabou' dining room with video installations including the 2000 Hanover World Exposition project and an Argentine reality show; the 'Atlas du goût' with symbolic plates from South American and European cities, the first shown at the 1997 Istanbul Biennial; a dark room displaying the concept of 'alicament' in vitrines; and a room with giant tongues representing Mexico, Brazil, and Havana printed with local gastronomic images. Upstairs, 350 opaque crates, vitrines, and transparent refrigerators contain thousands of symbolic objects like resin peppers, packaging, films, and recipes, refreshed throughout the exhibition. Miralda's work, rooted in a politico-artistic line since the 1960s with 'Soldats soldés' and collaborations with Dorothée Selz and Montse Guillèn, uses irony and symbolism to foster dialogue and critique power. The Food Cultura Museum, based in Barcelona, aims to preserve global culinary memory against taste globalization.
