Anton Yelchin's Photography Debuts in Rome

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The late actor Anton Yelchin (d. 2016), known for Star Trek and Alpha Dog, pursued photography secretly in his final six years. His first European exhibition, 'Provocative Beauty,' was held at Spazio Field in Palazzo Brancaccio, Rome, in 2019. Curated by Clayton Calvert and Alessio de' Navasques, the show was promoted by the Yelchin Foundation and presented during the Videocittà festival, founded by Francesco Rutelli. Yelchin's Leica captures Los Angeles's nocturnal, transgressive life, with voyeuristic portraits of celebrities and strangers, nudes, fetish objects, and self-portraits reminiscent of Cindy Sherman. His work evokes Nan Goldin's autobiography, Lucian Freud's melancholy, Helmut Newton's eroticism, and Wim Wenders's vast landscapes. Yelchin described photography as 'a way to express a certain type of emotional, abstract narrative.' The exhibition ran at Spazio Field.
