Antisemitic threat letter sent to MEIS Museum in Ferrara
The MEIS – Museo dell'Ebraismo Italiano e della Shoah in Ferrara received an anonymous letter containing insults and threats against Jews, discovered by staff returning from the holidays. The Digos (Italian police special branch) is investigating the origin and sender. The museum, opened on December 13, 2017, was established by the Italian Parliament in 2003 with a €50 million investment from MiBACT. Its five-building design by Studio Arco (Bologna) and –SCAPE S.p.A (Rome) won an international competition in 2011. This is the first such attack on the museum, considered a sensitive site. Cultural and political figures condemned the act, including Culture Minister Dario Franceschini, Emilia-Romagna President Stefano Bonaccini, Culture Assessor Mauro Felicori, and Ferrara's mayor Alan Fabbri. President Dario Disegni and Director Amedeo Spagnoletto expressed gratitude for solidarity, reaffirming the museum's mission to combat antisemitism and educate on equality, ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27.
