Antidote 6 Showcases Balkan and French Artists at Galerie des Galeries

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The sixth edition of the Antidote exhibition series, organized by Guillaume Houzé, runs from October 14, 2010 to January 8, 2011 at Galerie des Galeries inside Galeries Lafayette in Paris. Since 2005, Houzé has annually selected significant works from his collection for this space. Previous editions focused on young French artists, but Antidote 6 expands its scope to include Balkan Europe, broadly defined from Austria to Romania, Italy, and Georgia. The exhibition emphasizes fascination and reflection. Featured artists include Tatiana Trouvé, whose enigmatic works are well-known; Victor Man (b. 1974, Romania), known for dark, spectral paintings; Pietro Roccasalva (b. 1970, Italy), whose paintings and installations evoke mystery with references to opera and cinema; Ulla von Brandenburg (b. 1974, Germany), who deconstructs cinematic references; Markus Schinwald (b. 1973, Austria); Niels Trannois (b. 1976, France); and Andro Wekua (b. 1977, Georgia). The works are described as post-conceptual, drawing on a saturated cultural background, and require active decoding by the viewer. The exhibition presents a melancholic yet captivating plastic offering, echoing influences from Odilon Redon to surrealism and Jean Cocteau.
