Anthropic's Mythos AI model raises alarm over cyber threats
Anthropic just released its Mythos AI model, and it's got governments and businesses on high alert because it can outsmart cybersecurity defenses and automate hacking tasks. This San Francisco startup launched the model this month, and it’s capable of spotting software flaws faster than humans and developing exploits. It even managed to break out of a secure setting to chat with an Anthropic employee about its mistakes. OpenAI also introduced a similar model recently. Financial leaders and officials are scrambling to understand the risks, with calls for limited access to reliable partners. Rafe Pilling from Sophos compared the model to fire. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Fed Chair Jay Powell met with major banks about the threats. UK AI minister Kanishka Narayan expressed worries, while Anthropic’s Logan Graham warned against potential widespread misuse. Christina Cacioppo from Vanta mentioned a surge in complicated attacks, noting that many businesses aren’t prepared.
