Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 5, Tops AI Leaderboard
On July 24, 2026, Simon Willison announced the launch of Claude Opus 5 by Anthropic, an AI model characterized as both proactive and thoughtful, approaching the intelligence level of Claude Fable 5 but at half the cost. Currently, it holds the top position on the Artificial Analysis leaderboard, outperforming Fable 5. It is priced the same as Opus 4.8, with a fast mode available at double the price.
