Anthropic files for IPO as Amodei defends AI spending

ai-technology · 2026-06-05

Anthropic has confidentially filed for an IPO, co-founder Daniela Amodei announced at the Bloomberg Tech conference on Thursday. The AI model maker, which recently raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation, is growing rapidly with annualized revenue crossing $47 billion in May, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025. Amodei justified the move by citing high upfront costs for training models and serving inference, arguing that public markets are well-suited to provide the necessary capital. She dismissed concerns that corporate AI spending might slow, noting that businesses are still early in figuring out effective deployment. Unlike rivals OpenAI and xAI, Anthropic is not building its own data centers to avoid overextending on compute. Last month, the company partnered with xAI for compute capacity in a deal costing $1.25 billion per month.
