Anthropic Appoints Theo Hourmouzis as ANZ GM, Opens Sydney Office

Anthropic has named Theo Hourmouzis as General Manager of Australia and New Zealand, concurrently opening a Sydney office. Hourmouzis, formerly Snowflake's SVP for Australia, New Zealand and ASEAN, brings over 20 years of tech leadership across Asia Pacific. He will lead Anthropic's local team and develop a customer strategy for the region, focusing on bringing Claude AI into enterprise and government work. The company has deepened partnerships with Commonwealth Bank, Quantium, and research institutions including Australian National University, Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Garvan Institute of Medical Research, and Curtin University. Anthropic also signed an MOU with the Australian government. New platform collaborations include Canva and Xero, and a Claude for Nonprofits partnership with YMCA South Australia. The Sydney office follows recent openings in Tokyo and Bengaluru, with Seoul upcoming.
