Anthropic acquires SDK startup Stainless to boost AI agent connectivity

ai-technology · 2026-05-18

Anthropic has purchased Stainless, a startup established in 2022 that focuses on creating SDKs, CLIs, and MCP servers. Since the inception of its API, Stainless has powered every official Anthropic SDK, utilized by numerous companies to develop libraries in TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, Kotlin, and other languages. This acquisition is intended to improve Claude's capabilities in linking to data and tools, thereby enhancing agent connectivity. Katelyn Lesse, Anthropic's Head of Platform Engineering, emphasized that the utility of agents is determined by their connectivity, and the Stainless team will help broaden that scope. Alex Rattray, Stainless's founder and CEO, remarked that Anthropic was an early supporter of their approach. Additionally, Anthropic revealed that PwC is implementing Claude to innovate enterprise functions, starting with U.S. teams and expanding globally, alongside a $200 million collaboration with the Gates Foundation and the launch of Claude for Small Business.
