Anthony Hopkins Films Dylan Thomas Adaptation in Welsh Town, Drawing Crowds
Hundreds gathered in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, north Wales this week as Sir Anthony Hopkins filmed scenes for the upcoming movie A Visit To Grandpa's. The Oscar-winning actor, 88, transformed the town into what locals described as a Hollywood scene, with about 200 residents and tourists watching across three days. Based on a short story by Dylan Thomas, the film follows a young boy sent to spend summer with his eccentric grandfather on a Welsh farm. Deputy mayor Nia Wyn Evans noted the production brought excitement and pride, calling it a very special experience for the community. Hopkins, born in Port Talbot, chatted with spectators and was described as down-to-earth and appreciative of the town's beauty. Director DJ Caruso called working with Hopkins to bring Thomas' story to life one of the great honors of his directorial life. The film also features Newport-born Aimee-Ffion Edwards and Dr Who's Aneurin Barnard, though no release date has been announced. Hopkins won his first Oscar for Best Actor in 1992 for The Silence of the Lambs and his second in 2021 for The Father.
