Antarctica Exhibition in Rome Evokes the White Continent Through Art and Science

An exhibition titled 'Antartide, il Continente Bianco. 40 anni di ricerca italiana' is underway at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) in Rome, curated by the Gruppo Tecnico di Progettazione, Organizzazione e Comunicazione led by Francesca Messina. Rather than documenting the Antarctic landscape, the show evokes it through immersive installations, sculptures, and interactive displays. Organized by CNR with the Commissione Scientifica Nazionale per l'Antartide (CSNA), Museo Nazionale dell'Antartide (MNA), ENEA, OGS, and other research entities, the exhibition transforms scientific content into an artistic experience. Highlights include a 270° immersive video installation, taxidermy models of emperor penguins and Weddell seals from MNA collections, rock fragments shaped by wind and sand resembling land art, meteorites, a rotating globe showing seasonal light changes, and a model of the Laura Bassi research vessel. The show runs until January 23 at CNR Rome.
