Managed by Italy's National Antarctic Research Program in collaboration with the French Polar Institute Paul-Émile Victor, Concordia is positioned on a 10,800-foot-thick ice cap, situated over 600 miles from the nearest coast. The prior record low stood at minus 120.5 degrees in 2010. Gabriele Carugati, the station leader, described the findings as 'remarkable.' Despite the severe cold, Antarctica continues to lose ice, impacting species such as krill and penguins. The all-time record low remains minus 128.6 degrees, set at Russia's Vostok station in 1983.
