Anri Sala's Sonic Choreography at Serpentine Gallery and Centre Pompidou

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Anri Sala's displays at the Serpentine Gallery in London (1 October – 20 November 2011) and the Centre Pompidou in Paris (4–9 October 2011) focus on sound and the movement of visitors. At the Serpentine, the 2008 sculpture Doldrum resonates with audio from The Clash (2010) and Answer Me (2008). The latter presents a woman's inquiry juxtaposed with a man's drumming, captured in a Berlin listening station. The Clash, filmed in a deserted venue in Bordeaux, incorporates a music box and barrel organ. Tlatelolco Clash (2011) features local residents engaging with a barrel organ. The performance 3-2-1 (2011) showcases saxophonist Andre Vida. Sala and Šejla Kamerić co-directed 1395 Days Without Red, which portrays life in wartime Sarajevo, following actress Maribel Verdú.
