Anonymous $3M Pledge to Keep Arkansas PBS Affiliated

An anonymous donor has pledged $3 million to Arkansas's public television station, Arkansas TV, but there’s a catch: the station must keep its PBS connection, and the Arkansas TV Foundation needs to find matching donations. This "challenge grant" will provide $1 million each year for three years. This announcement comes after the Arkansas TV commission decided in December to cut ties with PBS by June 30 due to expensive dues and lost federal funding. However, they paused this decision in March after public outcry, with a final choice expected by September 8. The foundation is working to gather $2.5 million for its PBS Dues Fund, and some former first ladies are actively supporting this effort. PBS leaders have also expressed their desire to keep the affiliation. If Arkansas TV chooses to leave PBS or if fundraising falls short, donors might request refunds. The network is facing challenges over its state funding in the Republican-led Arkansas House, and there's a bill suggesting $550,000 in state funds for PBS dues, contingent on matching contributions.
