Researchers have created a new standard known as AnnoBench to evaluate how well automated annotations work in data visualizations. This process is complex, as it requires adherence to numerous visual, semantic, and stylistic rules. Existing tools haven't provided a comprehensive assessment framework. AnnoBench integrates visualizations from reputable data journalism and visualization galleries, featuring annotation tasks that cover four different representation styles, five scenarios for chart descriptions, and two tiers of prompt specifications. The primary aim of this benchmark is to systematically assess the quality of these annotations.
