Annie Collinge's new book blends family life with surreal photography

publication · 2026-05-23

Photographer Annie Collinge, known for her surreal and color-soaked imagery, has released a new book titled 'Ask Alexa when we are all gonna die tomorrow :-)'. The series features her 12-year-old son as a model and explores the gap between idealized online portrayals of parenthood and reality. Collinge's work, which won a Grammy in 2023 for the cover art of Dry Cleaning's 'Stumpwork' with Rottingdean Bazaar, combines strong colors with esoteric objects. The book's title comes from a note her son left her. Collinge's sister Miranda contributed a poem, making it a family affair. The photographer, who has collaborated with brands like Valentino, BIMBA Y LOLA, Bottega Veneta, and Thames & Hudson, also collects and photographs objects from charity shops and online, later selling them. She is currently renovating a 1960s Severalls doll's house, originally made for patient rehabilitation at a hospital in Essex. Collinge's process involves acquiring items, capturing them on film, and letting them go, a practice she developed after clearing her grandmother's house in California. The book includes images of interiors and objects alongside portraits of her son.
