Anne-Solange Muis's novel 'Écume d'hiver' explores Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon
Anne-Solange Muis, a geographer and founder of the publishing house Terre Urbaine, has released her new novel 'Écume d'hiver' set in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. The book follows brothers Michel and Jean, traditional cod fishermen on Miquelon island, where Jean disappears one cold night. His son Yoann must return to the island he left as a child, confronting a life dictated by nature and reconnecting with his birthplace. Muis structures chapters like paintings, immersing readers in the landscapes and legends of Miquelon-Langlade. Her debut novel 'Une île pour elle' previously won the Amerigo-Vespucci prize among other awards. Muis will appear at the Festival du Livre de Paris at the Grand Palais from April 17 to 19, 2026. The novel is published by Phébus, which describes it as building an immense setting for a vibrant story of transmission through sober language. Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon is portrayed as a fragment of France at the edge of the North Atlantic.
