Anne Imhof to create large-scale commission for BMW Tate Live 2019 at Tate Modern

exhibition · 2026-04-20

Anne Imhof, recipient of the Golden Lion at the 2017 Venice Biennale for 'Faust', will produce a new work for Tate Modern's BMW Tate Live program in 2019. Her commission will run from March 22 to March 31, 2019. Imhof's project marks the first time a single artist will occupy the entirety of the Tanks at Tate Modern. The work will combine music, sculpture, painting, and durational performances. According to Tate Modern, the installation will address contemporary anxieties surrounding isolation, technology, proximity, and identity. Structural interventions, sound, and lighting will be used to transform the Tanks into atmospheric spaces inhabited by collaborators. Visitors can freely explore the installation during the day. Performances will occur on six evenings throughout the exhibition period.
