Anne de Carbuccia's One Ocean short film premieres at Venice Film Festival

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

Artist-activist Anne de Carbuccia presented her short film One Ocean at the Venice Film Festival, a poetic showreel that is part of her larger project One Planet, One Future. The project, launched five years ago, documents environmental crises such as melting glaciers and polluted seas through temporary installations called Time Shrines, photographed in natural light. De Carbuccia, who studied anthropology at Columbia University and was inspired by explorers like Jacques Cousteau and Alain Bombard, uses symbols of vanitas—a small hourglass and a skull—as memento mori to urge responsible choices. The film features music by Ludovico Einaudi, who contributed an existing track due to time constraints. De Carbuccia plans to develop a feature-length film, expanding her reach beyond photography to video for greater educational impact. Her exhibition at Castel dell'Ovo in Naples attracted 70,000 visitors. She funds her foundation through art sales to avoid sponsors, financing educational programs in Milan and New York.
