Anne Barlow named artistic director of Tate St Ives

institutional · 2026-04-24

Anne Barlow has been appointed as the artistic director of Tate St Ives, succeeding Sam Thorne, who moved to Nottingham Contemporary in late 2015. Barlow will start her position in spring 2017, coinciding with the museum’s reopening after being closed for renovations since October 2015. The grand reopening will feature two exhibitions, The Studio and The Sea, from March 31 to September 3, 2017. A new extension, created by Jamie Fobert Architects, is also set to open in autumn 2017, adding more exhibition space and a collection care suite. Before this, Barlow was involved in educational and media programs at the New Museum in New York and collaborated with Glasgow Museums on contemporary art initiatives. She co-curated the Latvian Pavilion for the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013.
