Annabel Karim Kassar's 'Garden of Hesperides' at Milan Design Week 2026

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

At the Brera Botanical Garden in Milan, Annabel Karim Kassar's installation 'Garden of Hesperides' runs until April 30, 2026. Inspired by mythological Hesperides guarding golden apples, the work features an open portico and nymph figures in vertical vitrines. The garden, established in 1774 under Maria Theresa of Austria, was a 14th-century meditation site for Humiliati fathers and Jesuits. Managed by the University of Milan since 1935, it reopened in 2001 after restoration. Plant collections are organized by botanical families, including medicinal, edible, and textile species, plus rare specimens like two 250-year-old Ginkgo biloba. The installation is part of Interni Materiae, supported by Annaka Design, Rubner Haus, Valpaint, and ABS Group. Milan Design Week 2026 brings thousands to this green oasis.
