Anna Wintour still nervous about Met Gala after 29 years

Anna Wintour, longtime Vogue editor and host of the Met Gala, admitted she still finds the star-studded event both thrilling and terrifying. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the 2025 gala, she called it her favorite and most fearsome time of year. The Met Ball, held annually on the first Monday of May, is a fundraiser for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Museum director Max Hollein noted that Wintour has hosted the gala 29 times, raising over $500 million for the museum and its Costume Institute, now named after her. This year's event is expected to raise more than ever. The gala opens the exhibition 'Costume Art' with the dress code 'Fashion is Art'. New exhibition spaces for the Costume Institute, converted from a souvenir shop, will debut. Expected attendees include Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Lena Dunham, and Venus Williams. The event is co-financed by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has declined to attend, unlike his predecessors.
