Anna Weyant's Paintings Now Fetch Millions at Auction

Anna Weyant, a 27-year-old Canadian-born artist based in New York, has seen her auction prices skyrocket. On May 19, 2022, Sotheby's The Now Evening Auction sold her work for $1.6 million, far exceeding its estimate of $150,000–$200,000. In late October, Christie's auctioned another piece for $1.2 million. Just three years ago, her paintings sold for $400. Weyant graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 and held her first solo show at 56 Henry in New York in 2019. She is now represented by Gagosian, which is hosting an exhibition on Madison Avenue through Christmas. Her figurative paintings, often depicting young women with porcelain skin, blend Dutch Old Master influences with modern, surreal, and tragicomic narratives. The artist's rapid rise reflects a broader market trend favoring figurative painting and psychological storytelling.
