Anna Paolini Piva, wife of artist Giulio Paolini, dies at 90

Anna Paolini Piva, co-founder of the Fondazione Giulio e Anna Paolini and lifelong companion of artist Giulio Paolini, died on January 30, 2021 at age 90. The foundation announced her passing via Facebook. A refined intellectual with deep interests in literature, music, cinema, and art, she was a close friend of feminist critic Carla Lonzi and participated in the Rivolta Femminile group in the 1970s. From 1965, she supported Giulio Paolini from the early stages of his career, witnessing his emergence in Arte Povera through exhibitions curated by Germano Celant between 1967 and 1972. In 2004, the couple established the Fondazione Giulio e Anna Paolini to promote artistic knowledge, archive Paolini's work, and eventually create a house-museum. The foundation has published several monographs on the artist.
