Anna Maria Maiolini's largest retrospective opens at PAC Milan
Anna Maria Maiolino, born in Scalea in 1942, is the focus of her most extensive retrospective titled 'O AMOR SE FAZ REVOLUCIONÁRIO' at PAC in Milan. This exhibition, her inaugural showcase at a public institution in Italy, features over 400 pieces, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, and installations. It begins with her large-scale paintings from the 1990s and moves back to her early drawings. Maiolino's work addresses themes such as finitude, infinity, and gender oppression, highlighting significant pieces like 'O Heròi' (1966), 'É o que sobra e X' (1974), and 'Monumento à fome' (1978). Curated by Diego Sileo, the exhibition also presents a raw clay installation, emphasizing her innovative media use as a form of resistance during Brazil's military dictatorship (1964–1984).
