Anna Capolupo's Dreamlike Paintings at Palazzo in Lecce
Anna Capolupo (Lamezia Terme, 1983) presents 'Trecce Celesti' at Spazio su in Lecce, a noble palace where steep stairs lead to a mezzanine turned painted chamber. Her large paper works blend dream and matter, vivid painting with orderly yet tumultuous narration, where figurative surprise returns the image to a daily fragment. The Calabrian-born artist's pictorial language encloses personal feeling, reminiscent of ancient large canvases. Still life becomes symbolic trace, a figurative archive of anthropological investigation that examines both real and unreal objects within exotic, magical, and atavistic visual scenery. Capolupo executes a triptych with carnivalesque details where long hues and numerous figures act as witnesses to a composite language, chromatism recalling Antonietta Raphaël's pictorial suggestions. Each work features intertwined ribbons, silent and laborious bonds that embrace thoughts, color, and drawing. The exhibition was reviewed by Giuseppe Amedeo Arnesano.
