Anna Bonomi Wins #CreateforSleep Contest with Narcolepsy Illustration
Anna Bonomi, a student in the Graphic Design and Art Direction program at NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) in Milan, won the #CreateforSleep contest organized by AIN (Associazione Italiana Narcolettici e Ipersonni). The campaign, under the patronage of AIMS (Associazione Italiana Medicina del Sonno) and with unconditional support from Bioprojet Italia, aimed to raise awareness about narcolepsy, a neurological disorder affecting approximately 2,000 diagnosed patients in Italy, though the actual number is estimated to be much higher. Coordinated by professor Pietro Puccio, the contest involved students creating artworks on the theme. The five finalists were Giovanni Zuccala, Gaia De Napoli, Alberto Corlade, Benedetta Sartorari, and Anna Bonomi, who took first prize. Bonomi's winning digital illustration focuses on the symptom of daytime sleepiness, depicting a child with his head on a desk during a Friday morning lesson. She chose this subject to highlight the misunderstanding of symptoms, especially in children, and the risk of misdiagnosis leading to academic failure or social isolation. Bonomi stated that the contest made her realize the importance of information and that she is proud to have provided the patient association with an additional communication tool. She noted that her work aligns with her artistic practice, which aims to immerse herself in the world she represents and clearly convey her opinion.
