Anna Boghiguian Wins 30th Wolfgang Hahn Prize

award · 2026-04-22

The Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst at Museum Ludwig has presented the 30th Wolfgang Hahn Prize to Anna Boghiguian, an Egyptian-Canadian artist of Armenian descent. This award, which offers up to 100,000 euros for the museum's collection acquisition, aims to honor contemporary artists who are recognized globally but remain relatively unknown in Germany. Boghiguian's artistic repertoire includes figurative murals, drawings, notebook pieces, and large installations that reflect on historical narratives. She has showcased her work at prominent biennials such as Istanbul (2009, 2015), Sharjah (2011), dOCUMENTA 13 (2012), Venice (2015), and São Paulo (2014, 2023), along with solo exhibitions at venues like Castello di Rivoli and Kunsthaus Bregenz. Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, a guest juror, commended the poetic nature of her work, while Museum Director Yilmaz Dziewior expressed enthusiasm for potential links to 20th-century art. Chairwoman Mayen Beckmann emphasized Boghiguian's innovative approach to contemporary challenges. The award ceremony is scheduled for November 2024 during Art Cologne.
