Anker unveils custom Thus chip for local AI in audio devices

Anker has unveiled its proprietary silicon, the Thus processor, aimed at enhancing local AI capabilities in audio devices, mobile accessories, and IoT products. This chip is recognized as the first neural-net compute-in-memory AI audio chip globally, offering a smaller and more energy-efficient alternative to conventional chips, allowing for advanced computations in compact formats. CEO Steven Yang noted that, unlike current AI chips that transfer data between memory and processing units, Thus conducts computations directly where the model is stored, reducing the need for data movement. The initial application will be in Soundcore's forthcoming flagship earbuds, designed to meet demanding size limitations. Anker asserts the chip can manage millions of parameters, greatly enhancing call noise cancellation by focusing on voices amid background noise. The earbuds will include eight MEMS microphones and two bone conduction sensors. The anticipated models are the Liberty 5 Pro Max and Liberty 5 Pro, priced at $229.99 and $169.99 respectively, following a leak in March.
