Anja Foerschner on Founding ECC Performance Art and Building a Global Online Community

other · 2026-05-10

In a conversation with Glasstire, curator Anja Foerschner elaborates on ECC Performance Art, an online initiative for performance art that debuted in 2019. Foerschner, who earned her PhD in Art History from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in 2011, has experience at institutions such as Haus der Kunst, the Getty Research Institute, PerformanceHUB, and Node-Center. Established prior to the COVID-19 pandemic with backing from the European Cultural Center, ECC aims to improve educational access and inclusivity in performance art. It offers virtual courses, an online gallery, and engages with DigiLabAiR/DigiLiveAiR. While it faces challenges in attracting participants for non-Western courses, it has succeeded in securing funding for instructors and gaining recognition for participants’ works. Foerschner intends to broaden collaborations with organizations in Latvia, Serbia, and the Netherlands.
