Anish Kapoor's 'Destierro' installation at Buenos Aires' Parque de la Memoria
Anish Kapoor has unveiled a monumental installation titled 'Destierro' at the Parque de la Memoria in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The park, established in 1998 along the Rio de la Plata, serves as an open-air museum commemorating victims of state terrorism and the disappeared during Argentina's military dictatorship (1976-1983). Curated by Marcello Dantas, the exhibition comprises three works: 'Imagine Blue', 'Anxiety', and 'Destierro'. The latter, created specifically for the main hall, features 100 tons of soil dyed bright red on the floor, alongside a blue-painted tractor simulating movement. Kapoor's work engages themes of displacement, exile, and loss. The artist is known for his color research, notably his exclusive rights to Vantablack, a pigment absorbing 99.96% of light, which sparked controversy with artist Stuart Sample who created the 'pinkest pink' and banned Kapoor from using it.
