Anish Kapoor Donates Limited Edition Print to Support Peggy Guggenheim Collection
Anish Kapoor has created a limited edition photo-etching on polymer matrix paper titled 'Blood and Earth' to support the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. The 100 copies will be given to donors contributing €5,000 or more to the 'Insieme per la PGC' fundraising campaign, launched on July 8, 2020, after the museum suffered losses exceeding €2 million due to a three-month lockdown. The museum reopened on September 2, 2020, and is now open six days a week. Kapoor, known for monumental public sculptures like 'Cloud Gate' (2004) in Chicago, has two works in the museum's garden: an untitled sandstone sculpture (1993) from the Hannelore B. and Rudolph B. Schulhof Collection, and an untitled black granite piece (2007) on long-term loan. Director Karole P. B. Vail expressed gratitude for Kapoor's gesture. Separately, Kapoor is planning a major exhibition at the Gallerie dell'Accademia during the next Venice Biennale (postponed to 2022), featuring new Vantablack sculptures—a pigment he exclusively licensed, sparking controversy. The exhibition will also include the blue and red 'void' sculptures that won him the Turner Prize in 1991 and were shown at the British Pavilion in 1990.
