Animated Short for Peace Marks Hiroshima and Nagasaki Anniversary

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

A new one-minute animated short film has been released to commemorate the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The film, titled after the hashtag #CranesForOurFuture, was created by a joint project of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki prefectures, in collaboration with the non-profit Nuclear Threat Initiative and HOPe (Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace). It draws inspiration from John Lennon's song "Imagine" and urges viewers to renounce war and pursue peace. The video features the recurring phrase "Imagine a world..." and calls for a world where nuclear weapons are off the political agenda. The final segment encourages viewers to participate in peace initiatives worldwide during August, share photos of origami cranes (a symbol of peace) on social media with the hashtag #CranesForOurFuture, and visit the organization's website for more information. The film was released online by the #CranesForOurFuture association.
