Animaphix Festival Returns to Bagheria with International Animation

The ninth edition of Animaphix. Nuovi Linguaggi Contemporanei Film Festival will take place from July 25 to 30 at Villa Cattolica, home of the Museo Guttuso in Bagheria, Sicily. The festival will screen 64 films, half of which are national or international premieres, divided into five sections. Highlights include Carrots Don’t Wait by Lina Machida, La Perra by Carla Melo Gampert (first Italian screening after Cannes and Annecy selections), and Sweet Like Lemons by Finnish director Jenny Jokela. Special focuses are dedicated to Spanish and Latin American cinema (section Storie di Umorismo e Massacro in collaboration with Animac festival in Lleida and the Instituto Cervantes in Palermo) and Eastern European cinema (EastBest program with festivals Stoptrik in Maribor and Łódź, Etiuda&Anima in Krakow, Anifilm in Liberec, and Animafest Zagreb). The festival aims to showcase high-quality independent and emerging animation that struggles in commercial distribution.
