Australian folk duo Angus & Julia Stone have released a new single, "Celestial Bodies," from their forthcoming album "Karaoke Bar," set for release on September 4. The track, which follows the title track and "Monroe," explores existential themes through hypnotic rhythms and dreamlike lyricism, built around a pulsating groove and their signature vocal interplay. The song's creative journey began on the Greek island of Hydra, where Saharan sands drifted over the Mediterranean, turning the sky red. It then evolved at the legendary Miraval Studios in southern France, before being completed at Angus's Sugarcane Mountain Studio in the New South Wales outback, Australia. The album itself marks a new chapter in the duo's songwriting, recording, and production, featuring songs inspired by global travels. The title track was composed on Hydra, near Leonard Cohen's former home, capturing the playful intimacy of a karaoke night. Other tracks include "Take Me Back to Japan," a love letter to Tokyo, "Brightest Place I Know," a breakup song about finding solace in city lights, and "The Cherry Farm," a reflection on memory and loss. Miraval Studios, originally built in the 1970s and used by Pink Floyd, The Cure, and AC/DC, was recently restored by Brad Pitt, providing the duo a rare week of creative immersion between tours. The album emphasizes joy and exuberance, both lyrically and musically.
