Angelo Pitrone's unseen portraits of Leonardo Sciascia exhibited in Gibellina
Angelo Pitrone's thirty never-before-seen photographs offer an intimate glimpse into Leonardo Sciascia's life, three decades after his death. The exhibition, titled 'Quasi vedendosi in uno specchio,' kicked off at the Meeting of Gibellina and will run until April 15. These mid-1980s black-and-white images feature Sciascia in domestic settings with notable figures like Gesualdo Bufalino, Vincenzo Consolo, and others. Salvatore Ferlita is curating this event, which is a joint effort between the Municipalities of Gibellina and Racalmuto, along with the Leonardo Sciascia Foundation. Tanino Bonifacio, an art critic and Gibellina's culture assessor, emphasized Sciascia's deep connection to the town, known for its impressive contemporary art collection post the 1968 Belice Valley earthquake.
