Angelo Piero Cappello appointed Director General of Contemporary Creativity at Italian Ministry of Culture
Angelo Piero Cappello has been named the new Director General of Contemporary Creativity (DGCC) at the Italian Ministry of Culture, replacing Onofrio Cutaia. Cappello brings over twenty years of experience from the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad, where he served as a manager in the Cultural Promotion Area of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. He previously coordinated the Contemporary Art Collection of the Farnesina and curated its exhibition catalog. For four years, he directed the Center for Books and Reading at the MiC. Cappello sits on the Board of Directors of the National Central Library of Rome and the Technical Scientific Committee of the Michetti Foundation for Contemporary Art. He is also a scientific advisor for the MuSa – Museum of Salò and the Foundation of the Casa-museo Il Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera. As a writer, he has focused on 20th-century artistic and literary culture, editing works by Gabriele d'Annunzio including "Studi su Gesù" and "Il Piacere." Cappello will be supported by a Technical Scientific Committee for Contemporary Art and Architecture composed of Claudio Varagnoli (president), Alessandra Barbuto, and Francesca Canfora. Operating from the Complesso di San Michele, his responsibilities include promoting and supporting cultural and creative enterprises nationwide, fostering research and cultural production. Additionally, he will serve as commissioner of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
