Angelica Teuta's nomadic sculptures invite interaction at Kasia Michalski Gallery
Colombian artist Angelica Teuta (born 1985 in Medellín) presents her first solo exhibition in Poland at Kasia Michalski Gallery in Warsaw. The show, titled 'Forest Houses Tent Shelters Forest', transforms the gallery into an interactive environment where sculptures, paintings, and murals coexist. Teuta's work explores the intersection of art, design, and architecture, focusing on the individual as an 'inhabitant'. She questions what makes people feel at home and how they can shape their surroundings. The installation features small, welcoming structures like tents and domes inspired by nomadic traditions and vernacular architecture, made from low-tech materials such as wood and textiles. Viewers are invited to enter these shelters, completing the artwork through active participation. Alongside the architectural pieces, the exhibition includes paper paintings and collages on dramatically scenic walls, referencing landscapes and forests as places of both disorientation and refuge. Teuta's biography and Colombian heritage subtly inform the works, yet they are simplified to evoke universal themes of travel, loss, and the search for home. The exhibition runs until January 12, 2017.
