Angela Vettese Leaves Arte Fiera, Lorenzo Balbi Takes Over

Angela Vettese announced her resignation as the director of Arte Fiera in Bologna on Facebook, effective immediately, on July 1, 2018. She hands over her responsibilities to Lorenzo Balbi, who has been the director of MAMbo since last year. Vettese, who assumed her position in June 2016 with the aim of revitalizing the fair, saw mixed outcomes; while the 2018 edition featured enhancements in layout and programming, it struggled with a lack of international galleries and faced stiff competition from miart and Artissima. Balbi, formerly a curator at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, led Art City in 2018. Vettese’s exit raises questions about the leadership at MAMbo and the organization of the fair, just seven months ahead of the next edition. Balbi has not yet commented on his new position.
