Angela Vettese appointed director of Arte Fiera in Bologna

Angela Vettese, a prominent art critic, scholar, and former culture councillor of Venice, has been named the new artistic director of Arte Fiera in Bologna, succeeding the duo Giorgio Verzotti and Claudio Spadoni. The announcement was made by BolognaFiere, the fair's organizer, with director general Antonio Bruzzone expressing enthusiasm for Vettese's appointment. Vettese, an associate professor of theory and criticism of contemporary art at the Iuav University of Venice, previously directed the Galleria Civica d'Arte Contemporanea di Modena (2005–2008), the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro in Milan (2008–2009), and served as president of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice (2002–2013). Her appointment marks a return to a single female director after the fair had been led by a duo of men, following Silvia Evangelisti's earlier tenure. The move is seen as a bold choice for a fair that has struggled with its identity, and Vettese's experience in both academia and public administration is expected to bring fresh direction.
