Angela Tecce Appointed President of Museo Madre in Naples
Angela Tecce has been named President of the Fondazione Donnaregina per le Arti Contemporanee, which oversees the Museo Madre in Naples, succeeding Laura Valente whose three-year term ended in January 2021. Tecce, a prominent figure in Italian contemporary art, brings extensive experience from her roles as director of Castel Sant’Elmo, the Polo Museale della Calabria, and the Real sito di Carditello, as well as her work with the MiBACT and the Collezione Farnesina. She curated major exhibitions including Vesuvius by Warhol (1985) and William Kentridge (2015) at Capodimonte, and opened the Contemporary Section at Capodimonte in 1997 and the Museo sul Novecento at Castel Sant’Elmo in 2007. Under Valente’s presidency, the museum launched the Madre editions, an archive on Google Arts & Culture, a Summer School with 506 enrollees, and the “Madre per il Sociale” project that boosted young visitors by 48%. In 2019, Kathryn Weir became the first female artistic director of the museum, succeeding Andrea Viliani.
