Angela Su Selected as Hong Kong's Representative for 2024 Venice Biennale

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Angela Su will represent Hong Kong at the Venice Biennale in April 2024, with Freya Chou curating her solo presentation. The Hong Kong Arts Development Council and M+ Museum administer the territory's participation. Su's practice explores connections between biological forms and technological systems through gothic drawings, pseudo-documentaries, and hair embroidery. She holds a biochemistry degree from the University of Toronto and studied art at Ontario College of Art. Based in Hong Kong, Su has exhibited internationally at venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia for the 17th Biennale of Sydney in 2010, CAFA Art Museum for The 2nd CAFAM Biennale in 2014, and The Drawing Center in New York for 100 Drawings from Now in 2020. Her 2017 science fiction anthology Dark Fluid speculates on social activism and Hong Kong's future. Su expressed honor in representing her hometown during turbulent years and connecting with global audiences through the biennale. The event was postponed to accommodate the delayed architecture biennial.
