Angel Moya Garcia appointed new curator of Mattatoio in Rome
Angel Moya Garcia (Cordoba, 1980) has been named the new head of cultural programming and event coordination at Mattatoio, Rome's cultural center. His work will focus on Padiglione 9B, in close collaboration with Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, chaired by Cesare Pietroiusti. The programming will be developed through 2022. Garcia, a graduate in Art History from the University of Cordoba, is co-director of visual arts at Tenuta dello Scompiglio in Lucca and a member of ICOM Italia, IKT, and IAC Spain. His research over the past decade has centered on performance and collective identity, which aligns with Mattatoio's multidisciplinary approach. He plans to integrate performance with exhibitions, creating a dynamic space that constantly transforms. The appointment comes during a period of uncertainty for cultural institutions due to government lockdown measures, but Garcia is determined to establish a strong identity for the program, focusing on performance as a key language.
